The tree is lonely The tree knows all solitude 
The tree knows the solitude of the sunken morning
I know the evening solitude covered in clouds
but the tree is
Endure loneliness and overcome loneliness
I enjoy solitude again

Essayist Lee Hyangha says this about the tree:

Trees often overlap with the image of loneliness and solitude
Even if my heart follows me and longing calls me
just watching from afar
I can’t move even an inch
So standing in one place, the tree learns to wait
By the time you overcome loneliness and get used to waiting
maybe the tree will crack
The new spring is sprouting in my arms
so many lives…

나무는 고독하다 나무는 모든 고독을 안다
나무는 잠긴 아침의 고독을 알고
구름에 덮힌 저녁의 고독을 안다
그러나 나무는 어디까지든지
고독에 견디고 고독을 이기고
또 고독을 즐긴다

수필가 이향하는 나무를 이렇게 말하고 있다

나무는 외로움 고독의 이미지와 겹쳐질 때가 많다
마음이 따라가고 그리움이 불러도
멀리서 지켜보기만 할 뿐
한치도 움직일 수는 없다
그렇게 한자리에 서서 나무는 기다림을 배운다
고독을 이기고 기다림에 익숙해질 쯤
아마 나무는 깨닭을 것이다
새 봄을 맞아 제 품안에 움트고 있는
수많은 생명들을…
